How to Clean Your Tempe, AZ Air Conditioner

Air conditioning units are large investments, which is why our team at The Duke of Air highly recommends routine maintenance. In addition to this, it should be a priority to clean your air conditioning unit to get rid of dust, dirt, and debris. If you’ve never done this before and need some expert tips, we’re here to help.

1. Turn off Power

The first step to cleaning your outdoor A/C unit is to turn off the power to it. Once you do this, you can prep your hose with a nozzle.

2. Gently Wash

Next, gently wash the sides of the air conditioning unit to remove any dirt or debris that has built up over time. You will not harm the unit by doing this, especially if you’re using a sprinkler setting on your nozzle. You’ll also want to address the evaporator coils behind the unit as well as the drain pan. When washing, you’ll see a lot of dirt wash away, which is exactly what you want.

3. Replace Filters

Once you’ve cleaned off your a/c, you’ll want to replace the filters inside of your home to ensure airflow is as clean as possible. It’s recommended to replace these once per season and wash the outside a/c unit at the same time. If possible, you may also want to invest in a cover for your air conditioner that can minimize the amount of dirt and debris that finds its way inside.

Tip: If you notice anything that doesn’t look right, then it’s important to have a professional take a look. Touching small parts or wires can result in damage and can be dangerous to handle.
